THE TOWN of Bloxwich is back on the footballing map after an absence of three years.
Formed in 2006 as Birchills United, we have made rapid progress both on and off-the-field since then, scooping the Wolverhampton Combination title in 2006/07 and the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One crown at the end of our first season of senior non-League football in 2007/08.
Having been based at The Old Red Lion Ground in the town since the summer of 2007, we believe that the name change will help us embrace our local community.
"The lack of a senior non-League team to represent the town is something that needed to be addressed," said player-manager, Michael Moseley. "Blakenall were regular members of the Southern League during the 1990s and Bloxwich Town also had plenty of success at a higher level before their sad demise in 2005.
"Their achievements increased the profile of the town nationally as well as locally and just goes to show the potential that there is in this area.
"The fact that all of our players are local lads, with an average age of just 21, counts for a lot. They have developed well together as a team over the past couple of years and are great mates off-the-field as well. They are relishing the challenges that lie ahead.
"It's nice that we are able to bring together lads from areas such as Bloxwich, Leamore, Beechdale, Mossley and Delves and see them mixing well and working hard for each other.
"There is so much talent locally and we want to be able to provide a platform for it to thrive and give local people a team to be proud of.
"A lot of people who followed Blakenall and Bloxwich Town have already started to come along to see what we are about and with this name change, we want to be able to reach out to the local community and give them a club that they can associate with.
"We are ambitious and really want to move the club forward both on and off-the-field. To do that we need the help and support of local businesses and volunteers who are prepared to give up their spare time to assist us.
"We want to reach as far as we can. The beauty of football is that anything is possible with hard work and application.
"The foundations are in place here and I feel that we are on the verge of something good. At the moment there are just a handful of us running the whole club, but with the support of the local community I am excited by what we can go on to achieve."
